D.C. metro officials have voted unanimously to adopt the “best” system for their area.
“In choosing the best system, the Board will work to achieve the best return on investment for taxpayers and will work with the District to implement and enhance its comprehensive transit system to meet the needs of the community.” “
The board approved the new system with the support of the Mayor and the Mayor’s Cabinet and the members of the Metro Board of Directors,” the statement said.
“In choosing the best system, the Board will work to achieve the best return on investment for taxpayers and will work with the District to implement and enhance its comprehensive transit system to meet the needs of the community.”
The new system will be in place by the end of 2020, according to the statement.
The Metro system currently serves roughly 6 million people and is one of the largest and most successful transit systems in the United States.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will become the largest transit agency in the country with nearly 1.8 million riders, according the agency’s website.
The system serves roughly 3.4 million people.
Metro officials say the new systems will be faster and more reliable than the current system, but they will still be “a long way from reaching the goal of 100% ridership by 2035.”
Metro currently has about 1.5 million riders.
“The new system has the potential to significantly reduce wait times for Metro customers, while allowing the agency to focus more resources on the safety and reliability of the system,” the Metro board said in its statement.
“It will also be a significant step forward in Metro’s commitment to investing in our system and to achieving a level of service that meets the needs and expectations of our riders.”
Metro’s board approved a budget for fiscal year 2021 that includes $917 million in new funding for the system.
The Metro Board also approved a $918 million budget for the next three years, with the $922 million coming from an increase in the federal government’s share of Metro’s operating expenses.
Transit experts say the transit agency’s budget proposal is ambitious, but not unrealistic.
While the budget is a step in the right direction, the system will still have a long way to go.
“That’s why the Metro Council has been working on this for a number of years,” said Paul O’Connor, vice president of government affairs for the transit advocacy group the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
“They’re talking about a system that is going to take about two or three years to build, but the challenge is that that is not enough time to build it.”
“It’s going to be a long, slow process,” he added.
“We don’t want to wait that long to see the results of this.”
